WHY CHOOSE An Extendo?

Generally, telescopic handlers are assumed to look and operate the same way - reaching outward and upward to lift and place loads into positions not possible with a straight mast forklift or other material handling equipment.

Pettibone Extendo, in contrast to competitive telehandlers, demonstrates superior engineering and features that massively improve safety and productivity. For safely lifting thousands of pounds, the Extendo telehandlers offer maximum lift heights of up to 56 feet, 6 inches and forward reaches of up to 42 feet. The X-Series features formed boom plates for greater strength and reduced weight, minimizing deflection for better load control.

With nearly double the boom overlap of previous models, the Extendo provides smoother operation and extends service life. The bottom-mounted external extend cylinder reduces the load on the wear pads by up to 50%, which simplifies maintenance jobs, while heavy-duty extension chains ensure stable and long-lasting boom function.

Pettibone Extendo telehandlers are renowned for their revolutionary hydraulic circuit that delivers efficient performance, exceptional controllability, and fast cycle speeds with smooth, intuitive load handling. A single joystick controls all boom functions, and cylinder cushioning prevents wear from hard stops and load spills.

To enhance stability, the Extendo features a sway cylinder with 24 degrees of combined frame leveling — 12 degrees right and left of center — 20% more than typical telehandlers. Automatic fork leveling without slave cylinders performs well even in cold weather. A standard quick attach system turns the Extendo into an all-in-one telescopic handler, capable of operating with forks, buckets, balers, truss booms and side-tilt carriages.

The Extendo’s chassis and boom structures are designed to improve operator visibility in all directions. The telehandler uses a single lift cylinder to improve sight lines to the rear. The side-mounted engine is positioned to allow an excellent curbside view. Models equipped with outriggers are designed to give operators good visibility to the fork tips. For even more enhanced visibility, a rear-view camera system is optional.

Another sightline hazard most telehandlers have is an extra set of slave cylinders near the pin where the boom is hinged, resulting in an additional obstacle to rear visibility. The Extendo’s design doesn’t require slave cylinders, eliminating this sightline hazard and improving overall rear visibility.

Reliability

The Extendo telehandlers are built ruggedly for easy maintenance and durable components. Built for longevity for the long haul, the Extendo operates using an easily accessible side pod mounted Cummins Tier 4 Final diesel engine, Dana high steer axles, and a Dana Powershift transmission, which are all designed for reliability and durability.

The hydraulic and fuel tanks are made of heavy-duty steel, not puncture-prone plastic, with a lockable fuel-fill in a clean, accessible location. Users can easily reach all filters and fluid level indicators, and the boom’s interior is also accessible for maintenance. Additionally, non-tensioned boom hoses also further extend service life.

The new box construction of the Extendo 944X boom was noticeably more stable, especially under load and at full extension. The machine delivered plenty of power. What’s nice about the new machine is they’re using almost the same control system. It was very easy for the guys to transition from the older telehandler to the new model. Positioning the machine was very easy with how smooth the controls are.
